An American couple was brutally murdered during their vacation. Lauren Geoghegan and Jay Austin were fulfilling the dream of traveling the world by bicycle. On Sunday, while riding with five other cyclists, they were hit and stabbed by armed men in Tajikistan. Geoghegan's parents confirmed to CBS that they were both 29 years old. ISIS has declared itself responsible for the attack. Two other tourists, one Swedish and one Dutch, were also killed while the other three cyclists managed to escape alive, according to NPR.

The American couple began their journey in 2017, investing all of their savings in this vacation. Their adventure took them to Africa, Europe and Asia before reaching Tajikistan. Lauren and Jay documented some of their experiences on their SimplyCycling blog.

Lauren worked in the admissions office at Georgetown University, where she graduated. Her boyfriend Jay, who was from New York, also graduated from Georgetown. His mother, Jeanne Santovasco, told The Washington Post: "She was a noble soul who cares about the world and wanted to make it a better place." On his blog, Jay Austin wrote from Morocco that the world was not as "big or terrifying" as they described it in the news. May they rest in peace.
