The prison conditions of drug trafficker Joaquín el Chapo Guzmán continue to be extreme in the United States, to the point that they have denied him things as simple as having a Bible or a dictionary to be able to translate from English to Spanish.

This was recently revealed during a press conference by the lawyer Eduardo Balarezo, who defends the Sinaloa capo, revealing new details about the difficult situation experienced by his defendant in the Manhattan prison in which he is being held.

"It is a Bible bought through Amazon … just like the dictionary that it has not received either," revealed the legal representative of Guzmán Loera. According to The Daily Beast website, the authorities are taking all necessary measures to avoid any kind of contact between the outside world and the Mexican kingpin.

“His family has sent him letters regularly. He has not received any … it is just another way to affect Mr. Guzmán, Balarezo added in his statements this Wednesday.

During the last months, El Chapo's defense team has been emphatic in denouncing the conditions of his confinement and they assure that they are physically and mentally affecting their client.

According to the lawyer, the isolation that Guzmán Loera has been subjected to has been so strong that his defense team wants a psychologist to evaluate him, since he has been confined alone for about a year. Balarezo said that the memory and other mental abilities of his client have been impaired in recent months.

El Chapo, who twice escaped from maximum security prisons in Mexico, waits at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York for the start of his trial scheduled for next April.
