Authorities in Miami-Dade County have voiced their rejection of the terrible death of a 4-year-old girl whose body was found in decomposing trash.
Now, the mother of the minor is the main suspect in the death of the girl, whom he allegedly liquidated as insolent.
Taina Paige's lifeless little body was discovered this Sunday afternoon in the apartment complex where the minor lived when one of the neighbors took out the trash. The corpse was wrapped in a blanket among the debris.
On Monday morning, Miami Beach police arrested Tina Farrington, the child's mother, in connection with the child's death, People confirmed.
According to his arrest documents, Farrington was at home with his two children and was upset that the girl "answered" him. Then, the woman allegedly suffocated her with a pillow.
Investigations determined that the girl died on October 31 and it is suspected that the mother first hid the body in the trunk of her Nissan Altima car, but that as her state of decomposition progressed, she noticed the smell that emanated and chose to throw it in the trash.
Despite her decomposition, it was said in the report, injuries to her arms, torso and legs were still visible on the girl's body.
"We are sickened and devastated with the death of this innocent girl," Jessica Sims, spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), said in a statement. "DCF has launched an investigation to review the circumstances that led to this tragedy and will assist the police to the extent possible to find those responsible for this heinous act."
According to People, the girl's father Leon Paige is a Miami Beach police officer. Spokespersons of said office asked for "privacy" for the man "in these difficult times." For their part, relatives of the minor established a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe.com to seek “due burial” for the girl.
Farrington remains in the custody of the Miami-Dade authorities without bail and on charges of first-degree murder.
