When she was very young, Sahana Khatun began to develop strange warts on her back, which gradually spread to other parts of her body. Now it is feared that she suffers from the so-called tree man syndrome.

The 10-year-old girl, who is very poor and orphaned by her mother, lives with her father in Bangladesh and has had great difficulty receiving treatment due to her financial situation. But as the warts spread to the minor's face, her father took her to the hospital of his city's Medical College, Dhaka, according to CNN.

"He has warts that look like the bark of a tree on his chin, nose and ears," the chief of surgery at the medical center, Samantha Lai Sen, told the US chain. "We don't know if it's 100 percent tree-man syndrome, but it's definitely a type of verruciform epidermodysplasia, a disease that causes a very rare skin disorder."

This inherited condition is caused by a defect in the immune system that makes people more susceptible to the human papilloma virus.

One of the most famous similar cases is that of Abu Bajandar, 27, who also lives in Dhaka and is one of less than 12 documented cases of this disorder in the world. åÜ Î4Û ~] ëÖôã¾ÞÙíÞ {ž = ÝÖÜ ÷ ½ ›Û:

The man made headlines when he underwent surgery this January to remove 11 pounds of warts and bumps that grew on his hands and feet.

"I never thought I would hold my son in my hands again," the man told British Guardian newspaper after the operation. "Now I feel much better. I can put my daughter on my legs and play with her. I can't wait to go home."

The man still has to undergo several surgeries on his hands.
