A girl with Down syndrome was killed by her mother's boyfriend. Adam Hughes, 24, faces charges for the murder of 4-year-old Kylee Willis. The man who lives in Rancho Cucamonga is accused of assaulting the girl when she interrupted him. According to investigators, Hughes was taking care of his girlfriend's children on Tuesday night when the little girl allegedly angered him. The man violently attacked the girl and then put her to sleep. Several hours later, Hughes noticed that Kylee was not responding and that her fingers and mouth were blue. According to police, the man then called his girlfriend, Corrine Blake, to tell him what had happened and to ask for help.

The mother called 911 at 7:56 pm Tuesday. Paramedics took the girl to a hospital in San Antonio, and then she was flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center by emergency helicopter for treatment for severe head injury.

Kylee was connected to life support machines for several days but died as a result of the injuries caused by her stepfather's blows. Both Hughes and the girl's mother were arrested and charged with cruelty to a minor. The man was charged with murder and will have to appear in court today.
