Fashion was not always Gina Rodríguez's favorite pastime. Before becoming famous, the actress of Puerto Rican descent used to dress in a comfortable and casual style that she herself has called the “tomboy” type.

“When I started to wear dresses, I felt uncomfortable, like out of my own skin. My mom never taught us how to put makeup on. It was a feeling like it was out of my body,”recalls Rodríguez, whose movie The Star opens this weekend and tells the story of how a brave burrito and her friends become Christmas heroes. "[I felt that] I had to play this game, be someone else in order to be accepted, and what I really was had nothing to do with makeup, hair, and cute dresses."

With the passage of time and according to her, her great stylist Lauren Rodríguez, the star of Jane The Virgin has been feeling more self-confident and has gone from wearing beautiful dresses by brands such as BCBG and Vivian Chan to other models of great designers like Zac Posen, Naeem Khan and Badgley Mischa. "I am fortunate to have a stylist who wants me to feel comfortable and secure in myself, so in the most comfortable way she has helped me find what makes me feel safe and has not rushed me," says Rodríguez.

According to her, no one prepares the stars for the odyssey that occurs the day after walking the red carpet when everyone feels the right to give their opinion on how celebrities were dressed. "If you don't have a solid foundation of who you are when you look in the mirror … a solid foundation of who you are, it's very easy to end up being what everyone thinks you should be."
