11-year-old Girl Dies From Hurricane Michael

An 11-year-old girl who was spending fall vacation with her grandparents in Georgia is among the fatalities left by Hurricane Michael in the southeast of the country.

Sarah Radney was in the living room taking photos of the storm when a portable structure was suddenly blown out of the house by the wind and penetrated the roof of the house. The object hit her face and the girl was unconscious and short of breath.

Her grandmother was also impacted by the object and suffered a broken rib and perforation of a lung, Seminole County authorities said.

"It is just a rare accident, I have never heard of anything like it," said Rody Rodney, the minor's father, who was in contact with the girl and her 12-year-old brother, throughout their stay in the house near a lake.. The children were due to return to their parents on Thursday.

The family's nightmare was further exacerbated as it took more than eight hours for the family to receive aid as the roads were impassable due to Michael's destruction.

The death of the little girl is the second recorded so far in the state. The number of victims caused by the hurricane has already risen to 13, including deaths in Florida and Virginia.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been without electricity in these states. Some towns, like Panama City, considered the epicenter of the devastation, are partially isolated by the destruction of roads and rubble that make circulation difficult.
