Grandmother Was Killed. What Happened?

Brandon Smith, 30, is accused of slaughtering his grandmother Helen Smith, 81. The elderly woman was found dead inside her Arizona apartment on July 29. The man, who identifies himself as Brandon Smith-Satan on social media, was allegedly "frustrated at being the only one in the family caring for the grandmother who suffered from dementia," says a police report obtained by PEOPLE.

After Helen Smith urinated and wet her clothes, the young man allegedly became furious, took her to bathe in the shower, and slapped her. After she fell unconscious in the bathtub, Smith allegedly went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and cut her throat in the bathroom. According to the police report, the grandson did not want his grandmother to "live like this" and "decided to end his life."

The young man's sister called 911 and told him that someone had "beaten and cut his grandmother's throat." "The sister was in the house and a second person was also present," Detective Seth Tyler of the Chandler Police Department told PEOPLE. "When officers arrived on the scene, she told officers that it was her brother who committed the crime. She was asleep and what woke her up was [the noise of] Brandon pulling [Helen's body] out of the apartment.”

The young man fled the apartment before the police arrived but was arrested while crossing the street. His neighbor Marca Whitehair told the KTVK channel that he had heard the Smith family cry out for help when they realized the old woman was dead. Brandon Smith is in jail on $ 1 million bail and will have to appear in court on August 6.
