A US soldier asks for custody of a baby his wife alleged died at birth, but actually sold it to another couple, according to reports.

Steven Garcia, 24, a sergeant in the United States Armed Forces, is not the boy's biological father, but still wants to take care of him.

According to the NY Post, his wife Marina García had given birth in Sierra Vista, Arizona, while Steven was on duty in Seoul, South Korea. It was then that she was told that the baby had allegedly died in childbirth. However, a month later, she would learn that the boy was alive, healthy, and safe.

Authorities found the boy in February, when an Arizona highway patrol stopped a car with license plates from another state for speeding, and inside was a Texas couple with a 3-day-old newborn baby; This turned out to be the baby that Marina claimed was dead; He had sold it to the couple because they did not want to take care of him, according to reports.

The couple carrying the baby, identified as Alex Hernández, 33, and his wife, Leslie Morin Hernández, 41, were detained and questioned where police discovered that Alex had fraudulently signed the birth certificate as the father of the minor to root of financial settlement he made with Marina. The boy, named Leo, was turned over to the Arizona Department of Child Safety.

According to police told KVOA News, Marina told police that she had no idea who the boy's father was, and that there was no way he was her husband because he was abroad. Steven's version of the police officers was that the last time the couple had sex was when they conceived the boy.

"The whole time she was pregnant, I was under the impression that I was the father," Steven told KVOA. DNA tests revealed otherwise.

“When I found out that it wasn't, I was pretty angry. I was in denial. I couldn't believe what was happening, he said.

Steven decided to ask for custody of the baby, but all he could do was get eight visits. Little Leo continues in an orphanage without the care of his parents, while Marina and the Hernández couple were charged with kidnapping, fraud, and conspiracy, the source revealed.

Despite not being the biological father, Steven will continue to fight the state of Arizona for custody of the child and plans to divorce Marina.

The military has started a GoFundMe collection to help him with his legal and travel expenses. His fight is inspired by the fact that he was adopted and his adoptive father "changed" his life. Now he wants to do the same for little Leo.
