The Oscar nominations for this 2020 were revealed on Monday morning in Hollywood. And as expected, there have been surprises and slights, especially in regards to Latino talent.

To open a place, the Spanish Antonio Banderas gets a tremendous mention as a Supporting Actor for his unforgettable starring role in the film Dolor y Gloria, by his countryman and friend Pedro Almodóvar.

The nomination was highly anticipated as Banderas has been covered with laurels with this role, especially since his presentation at the Cannes Festival where he won the Palme d'Or for Best Actor.

On the other hand, Mexicans Rodrigo Priet o and Mayes C. Rubeo also received mentions. The first in the category of Best Cinematrography for the now classic film Irishman (Netflix), by director Martin Scorsese and which leads the nominations with 10 mentions in total. His direct competition will be Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, by Quentin Tarantino and which leads Brad Pitt as a great favorite in the category of Leading Actor.

For her part, the Mexican Mayes C. Rubeo obtained a nomination in the Best Wardrobe category for Jo Jo Rabbit, a film starring the also nominated Scarlett Johansson and which received a total of six mentions.

As for the disappointments, Jennifer Lopez fans have not had a good day as the Bronx Diva was left out of the short list of actresses nominated for an Oscar for her acclaimed role as Ramona in Hustlers. Many hoped that the Nuyorican would receive her first Oscar nomination for the popular film, especially after her Golden Globe nomination, which sadly she did not take home.

Other slights included singer Beyoncé, who was left out of the nominations for her theme song for the Disney movie Lion King and, surprisingly, Frozen 2, the sequel to the popular animated film, also from Disney, which despite succeeding at the box office did not He has managed to convince the members of the Academy of Arts and Sciences.

The 92nd Oscars will take place this February 9 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood and will be broadcast live on ABC from 8:00 pm Eastern time.
