A 10-month-old baby, torn between life and death after a subject shot her in the head, apparently in revenge because her mother rejected her advances at a party.

The events occurred last Sunday around 4:00 am, in Fresno, California when Deziree Menagh, 18, was preparing to leave a party held in the Hammond neighborhood, according to local authorities.

At the celebration the young mother met Marcus Echartea, a man who apparently tried to force her to take him by the hand, according to Jerry Dyer, chief of the Fresno Police, at a press conference.

The woman felt uncomfortable and immediately left the house to tell her friends what had happened. Echartea came out behind her and tried to force her to sit on her legs, which she refused, according to ABC-30.

As Menagh explained, he got away from the guy again and went back to the party place where he picked up his daughter Fayth Percy and asked a friend to accompany her.

The trio advanced only a couple of blocks in their car when they saw Echartea approach with a revolver in hand. The subject approached the window and unloaded the weapon several times, wounding little Fayth, who was in her mother's arms.

The young mom's friend called 911 and the minor was taken in a "critical but stable" condition to a local hospital where bullet fragments were removed from the minor's skull.

Incredibly, the alleged gunman did not flinch when they took him to the police station. "When our detectives took him [to the precinct] … he had just shot a 10-month-old baby and did not seem to care, as he did not flinch," the police chief said incredulously, stressing the coldness of the guy.

On the other hand, the police have indicated that Echartea is apparently the suspect in another shooting that occurred on May 27 and where he allegedly shot several times inside a home and only a foot away from a 1-year-old boy.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the subject faces several charges, including attempted murder, and is expected to appear in court later this week.
