President Donald Trump is making waves over a series of external comments at the White House where he called certain undocumented immigrants "animals" and attacked Mexico again for what he called a lack of cooperation to control the migratory flow.

Meeting behind closed doors with representatives of the state of California to discuss the laws on the so-called "sanctuary cities," the 71-year-old president went on the offensive. "We have people who are entering the country or trying to enter, we are stopping many of them," he said without going into details.

He then took the opportunity to ask those responsible for immigration issues in his administration to do a "much better" job to repel undesirables, particularly gang members of the Mara Salvatrucha or MS-13.

"You couldn't believe how bad these people are," the New York-born billionaire continued in exasperation. "These are not people, they are animals and we are taking them out of the country at an unprecedented rate."

Trump took the opportunity to launch a threat against Libby Schaff, the mayor of Oakland, also in California, suggesting that he should be accused of obstruction of justice because in February he prevented a massive raid and arrests by alerting residents.

Mexico was not left out of the anger of the president who assured that the country "does nothing" to contain the flow of immigrants. “Mexico speaks but they do nothing for us, especially on the border. It certainly doesn't help us much in commerce, but especially on the border, they do nothing for us.” The words come at a time when trilateral talks between Canada, the United States and Mexico are expected to begin to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

Jerry Brown, Governor of California, issued a prompt and emphatic response in a statement. “Trump is lying on [immigration] issues. he is lying about crime and lying about California law. Flying [a Washington] to a dozen Republican politicians to admire him and praise his policies doesn't change a thing. We, the citizens of the world's fifth largest economy, are not impressed.”
