Facebook has implemented some changes with which it wants to give priority in the news feed of its 2,000 million users to the content shared by friends and family over that of brands and the media.

In other words, when you check your news feed from now on, you will see that there are more messages shared by the profiles of your loved ones, whether they are family or friends, than news, viral videos or advertisements posted by entities and companies.

According to Facebook, the changes - the most important in years to the operation of the wall - are due to the fact that millions of users complained that their news feed was filled with content from brands, celebrities or the press that made it more difficult to access the messages that most they care, which are those of their friends and family.

In particular, according to the social network, higher priority will be given to the posts of loved ones that generate more interaction, that is, they have more reactions and comments from your friends or family. The more content you like, emoticons or comments, the more prominence it will have.

"[Facebook] will be able to predict which posts you would like to interact with your friends, and they will give those posts more weight in terms of ranking," the social network said in a statement. "We are going to prioritize the posts of the friends over those of the pages [of entities]".

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg explained that one of the goals for this year is to make sure that users feel that the time they spend on the beef is “time well spent”.

“[The social network was created with] the mission of helping people to stay connected and get closer to the people who matter to us. That is why we have always placed the emphasis on friends and family. Research shows that strengthening relationships increases our well-being and happiness."

He admitted that the proliferation of messages with news or videos from non-personal profiles caused the wall to stray a bit from the main function of the tool, which is "to help us connect with each other."

“When we use social media to connect with the people we care about, it can be good for our well-being. We can feel more connected and less alone, and that correlates with long-term measurements of happiness and health. On the other hand, passively reading articles or watching videos - even if they are entertaining or informative - may not be as good,”added Zuckerberg.
