A Johanna FadulIt was not easy for him to get rid of Daniela, the unforgettable character he played for several seasons in the successful Telemundo soap opera Sin senos si hay paradise. In fact, at first when the Colombian actress began casting for other projects, it was inevitable that La diabla's daughter would not appear anywhere. "The casting people said to me, 'Let's see Daniela.' And I said 'My God, how can I do [so that it doesn't show]?”, Fadul tells an interview with People en Español. The passage of time, without a doubt, was his best ally to achieve it. "Daniela was a pretty strong character that marked many people, but I feel that the actor's fight is there, in leaving one character to start another," says the 34-year-old interpreter, who returns this Monday, February 10, to the Telemundo screens as part of the cast of Operación pacífico, the new superseries of the Spanish-speaking network.

Rebel without a cause, addicted to heroin … Mariana, your character, she looks tremendous …

I rather feel that Mariana is too innocent and naive a girl who obviously all the situation she lived with her sister Amalia when losing her parents So young and having to grow up practically alone leaning on each other made her go into drugs. And I think that when a person touches drugs it is difficult to get out of them. It is a little what happens to my character. She feels so alone that her only refuge is drugs. But she is a good woman who wants to help her sister and who is trying to get ahead. Unfortunately she messes with a boyfriend who is not the best option she has.

Could we say that we are facing a human character who makes mistakes?

Yes, but he commits them all (laughs). As the series progresses, the character also grows and sees his story and everything that happens to him. I can only tell you that he suffers too much. Some things happen to her that poor thing. Truly all the traumatic situations that one can imagine happen to Mariana.

In other words, the villainies you committed in Sin sinos … are you going to have to pay them in any way in this series?

Yes (laughs). I had not thought of it that way, but they say that karma exists and let's say that it could be that Daniela happened to give life to another being who is Mariana and is paying for all her evil deeds on earth.

Is it dizzying to come back with this series after the great success you had?

Of course. Every scene, every word, every moment of truth has all the love and all the desire. I tried to do it in the best possible way, not perfect because nobody is perfect on earth but I do it from the feeling and I only hope that people will be able to make that click and understand the character change because they are two completely different characters. This is another life, another world. I believe that Mariana will have regret and affection. In some moments they will say 'but this girl is stupid' and they will have a little anger. But they are two very different characters. The only thing they would have in common is that they are touched a little bit of that world of drugs but told from two different points of view because Daniela used drugs in her life, her mother only moved it, and instead Mariana does.

Is Mariana fair the character you were waiting to play after Daniela?

See that it does. I wanted to make a different character, that was not the bad one because many times they kind of focus on you and say 'like you did bad you are always going to be the bad one'. So with this character I want Daniela to be in the memory of the people and that they start to see me as Mariana. Not that they keep telling me Daniela on the street but now Mariana.

Why would you say Operation Pacific must be seen?

It is a different story that is not very far from reality. The cast really was carefully selected for everyone to collate with everyone. And each one's work was done with all the heart and soul. In any project you have to finish and comply with the recording plans, with the stipulated time from the beginning but in this series, despite all that, you never stopped taking care of the good material. If the scene did not like the directors, it was done until it turned out as it had to be seen, without thinking either that we must finish today's plan because if it does not become a whole case. No. Everything was done in the best way, with the best attitude, with the best energy. Generally, when we start to get to know our characters, the actors already have that essence within us and one reads the scenes and automatically when they see that something like that doesn't add up changes it. But not here. I think the characters are written so well that there was no need to change anything.

Operation Pacific opens next Monday, February 10 at 10 pm ET on Telemundo.
