The former porn star David Meza is behind bars waiting to know the penalty that will be imposed after having been found guilty of the murder of her boyfriend, the millionaire Jake Merendino, and that the double life he led was discovered.
The body of Merendino, 51, was found near Rosarito, Mexico, in May 2015 after being stabbed more than 20 times. The victim was in the neighboring country to plan his retirement with his 23-year-old partner.
Eight months later Meza was accused of killing her boyfriend in order to inherit her enormous fortune. According to People, the late billionaire had left a written will declaring Meza the heir to his fortune.
What the victim did not know is that the young man, who also worked as a paid companion, had a double life and kept a great secret. He was engaged to his girlfriend Taylor Langston, who was pregnant and living with him in San Diego, California.
A federal jury found Meza guilty last May of the murder of Merendino, for which he can be sentenced to a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison. The sentence will be announced in court on October 23.
Langston, who allegedly had no idea her boyfriend was a male escort or starring in gay porn movies, is on his part serving a 21-month sentence after pleading guilty to conspiracy. The night of Merendino's murder, Langston allegedly lied to authorities about Meza's whereabouts.
Merendino met Meza through an internet advertisement when he hired him to be his companion in 2013. According to a friend, he was shot with the young man. "He bought him sports cars and motorcycles," said Donna Armandi Pineda, a friend of Merendino's.
