Authorities in southern California have identified the man responsible for the shooting that unleashed chaos at a San Bernardino elementary school Monday, killing an 8-year-old boy and his teacher.

People magazine also released the names of the victims who lost their lives: Karen Elaine Smith, a 53-year-old teacher, and her 8-year- old student Jonathan Martinez. The perpetrator of the crime: Smith's husband, Cedric Anderson, who was separated from her and after murdering her, killed himself in his classroom.

Police also reported that in this apparent act of homicide-suicide a second student, a 9-year-old boy, was also injured and remains in an area hospital in stable condition.

Initial research indicates that Anderson, 53, did not attack the students but they were hit by bullets as they were behind Smith. Jarrod Burguan, chief of the San Bernardino police, said the subject entered the classroom without saying anything - armed with a large-caliber revolver - and shot his wife. "He came in and very, very quickly when he was in the classroom he started shooting," Burguan said. "They told me it reloaded."

The terrible shooting occurred in a special education class where students from first to fourth grade of elementary school meet. When Smith burst into the classroom, there were 15 children present and two adults, student assistants.
