Just over five months after little 10-year-old Caleb Schwab lost his life on a Kansas waterslide, his parents have struck a deal with the amusement park where the tragic attraction was located.
The incident, which occurred on August 7 at the Schlitterbahn Water Park in Kansas City, shook the country after the little boy died suddenly and violently on board the impressive slide of more than XX feet high when he was beheaded and flew off..
After months of negotiations, the parents finally reached an agreement with the park's owners on Wednesday, according to People.
"The Schwab family stands firm in making those responsible for this tragedy pay, while ensuring that none of this ever happens to another family again," family attorney Michael Rader said in a statement.
The details of the agreement were not disclosed at the moment, however in the document sent by email to People the lawyer assured that the details of the legal agreement "will be revealed in the near future."
The family had petitioned the Johnson County district attorney for approval of their request to secure a wrongful death settlement with the owners of the amusement park. This lawsuit also included the manufacturer of the raft on which the boy climbed to go down the slide. According to People, the judge, Thomas Sutherland, approved the deal.
The tragedy occurred during a private party, and the boy was enjoying the park's attractions along with his entire family, including his father, who is a state representative, Scott Schwab.
In the wake of the tragedy, the infamous waterslide, which had a long history of problems prior to its opening, was definitively closed in November.
