The fame that Yalitza Aparicio now holds worldwide after her performance in the film Rome keeps her down to earth; even, the actress does not forget her indigenous roots and made a general call for the prejudices to end and stop considering that in these populations people are "ignorant, poor and unable to excel." In addition, she asked for the support of the Mexican authorities to achieve inclusion.

"Hopefully we can contribute and stop discriminating against indigenous communities," Aparicio told the EFE agency. "We have such a large variety that we are not giving the opportunity to meet."

He assured that the discrimination suffered by women due to their origin forces them to lose their identity; for this reason, he considers it “painful” that many people no longer wear their typical outfits that “are such beautiful garments” simply by avoiding criticism.

"I think discrimination has led us to lose many things as indigenous women: our identity," she added. "They have had to stop wearing their clothes so that they are not judged with their eyes."

For Yalitza Aparicio there is a great lack of knowledge of the various indigenous peoples and they are considered as a single group without identity. In addition, for their misfortune they are prey to harassment and attacks by their roots. Aparicio has become the main spokesperson for her community and is fighting for equal treatment.

"Many times we include the indigenous as if they were the same, but each community is different in its way of thinking and customs," he emphasized. "What unites us, unfortunately, is discrimination."
