Billy's Donuts, a donut shop that had just opened its doors in a small town in Texas, has gone viral thanks to the tweet of the owner's son who softened the networks by confessing that his father had no customers and was "sad".
The message was posted by owner owner Billy By, Satharith By, on March 9 under the account of the Missouri City-based store. And he said: "My dad is sad because nobody has come to his donut shop", pointing out with a crying emoji.
From that moment on, the message began to circulate on networks and receive tens of thousands of “likes” including one from actor James Woods and filmmaker Casey Niestat. The message was also shared with fury -more than 300,000 times- and so far accumulates more than 740,000 "likes".
But most importantly, people flocked to the modest establishment to support Billy's Donuts. The next day the shocked family appeared in a new tweet to communicate that they had sold all their donuts and kolaches, a type of frying similar to donuts and typical of Cambodia, the country of origin of the store owners.
"I just wanted to warn you all !! We sell out all our donuts and kolaches! You are incredible. I can't thank everyone for coming and supporting [the] local businesses. This means a lot to my family,”said By in her message.
"I was just trying to grow business through friends, but eventually other people saw it too," Billy By told KPRC, an affiliate of the NBC network in Texas, on Monday.
By explained that when his father came to the United States as a refugee, he settled in California and opened his first donut shop there. However, his wife became ill and had to sell the business to relatives.
Later and already installed in Missouri City, he opened Billy's Donuts. "He came here 20, 30 years ago to find a better life, and here he is."
