Women have always had great power and capacity to reinvent themselves, but in recent years, the entrepreneurial women's movement has gained much more strength.
The author, motivator and speaker, Rachel Hollis is a super mom who knows how to move from one facet to the other. We chatted with Hollis and he shared some valuable tips for women who are ready to launch a new project to take action.
What would you say to women who feel trapped and don't know how to start making a change? Which is the first step?
The first step is always to know what change you want to make: to continue later. Most women will focus entirely on the "how" … that is, they will have a goal (such as recover or save money) and they will become obsessed with how they will achieve it and inevitably how difficult it will be. They end up being convinced before they start.
Instead, I encourage you to really get excited about what you want to do. Imagine it in detail. Look at the goal as if it were a movie in your mind. The passion for what is the goal can get you out of a place where you feel trapped because now you have a direction to follow. Once you go forward, even tentatively, you will feel more empowered to figure out the steps to succeed, but you will rarely get there if you are trapped and just focus on how much work it will take you to change.
How do you manage to keep a balance serving four children and running your business? Is there a real balance?
It is impossible! I don't think it's possible to balance with four kids (or even one kid!) And when you're chasing balance it just feels more out of control because you never get it. My career and my personal life have always had a different weight at different times in my life.
For example, when I was not married and focused solely on my career, it was far more important to me than my personal life. Today I am married and have four children, and I want to make sure that I present myself with heart and passion as wife and mother, which means a different approach than in my younger days. These two things will never be in total balance, but I think it is possible to feel centered and present in your life, even when you are busy.
