Never before in auction history has a bag been sold for so much money. Yesterday Hermès' Birkin model made headlines again when it was sold by a rador who preferred to remain anonymous.

This is the Himalaya model, made with Nile crocodile skin and topped with 18-carat gold buckles covered with 245 diamonds. As described in Christie´s, the house where the auction took place, this is considered "the Holy Grail" of the bags and they assure that its value is in the meticulous work that goes into its manufacture and its dyeing in that characteristic gray color that resembles to the snowy peaks of the Himalayas, hence its name.

Celebrities such as Victoria Beckham and Kim Kardashian have been photographed repeatedly wearing different versions of this hyper luxury accessory, but this time the record-breaking collector has preferred to stay away from flashes.

The Birkin model has been the most desired by celebrities for decades since its launch, 33 years ago. It all started when Hermès president at the time, Jean-Louis Dumas, met model and actress Jane Birkin on a flight from Paris to London in which she complained that bags never had enough pockets or space to organize their stuff.
