Cierra Ramirez was 14 years old when she realized she was only receiving audition opportunities for stereotypical Latinx characters. “I started noticing that I was mostly getting roles for the gardener's daughter or the maid's daughter,” remembers the actor of Colombian-Mexican descent. "I was just like, 'OK, if those auditions come my way, I'm not taking [them]." It was this mindset that helped her go after and land the part of Mariana on Freeform's The Fosters. Even before it was commonplace to shed light on the lack of representation in Hollywood, Cierra was standing up for herself.

Born in Houston, Texas, Cierra credits her success to growing up in a supportive, close-knit family. "My parents sold their house so I could live out in LA for a year," says the 23-year-old. "They've always supported me no matter what." The Latinx star is breaking barriers once again. Not only did she land a role on the Foster 's spinoff, Good Trouble, but she picked up the title of executive producer. “It's something I've always wanted to do. To be a part of something from the beginning, seeing it from just an idea to being on the air and everything in between.” She has a newfound respect for the work that goes into creating each episode. "I've been able to sit in meetings and really get down and dirty with the process," she says. "I'm learning as each day goes on."

When she's not exec-producing, rehearsing lines or recording new music, she is effortlessly strutting down the red carpet.
