The Latina Love Project highlights the lives of women - mothers, daughters, sisters - who sacrifice taking care of themselves to prioritize their family life, relationships and professional careers. In this series, sponsored by Ford, we highlight their efforts and successes, and tell us how they find time to dedicate to themselves.

In the fourth episode of Latina Love Project, lawyer and activist César Vargas talks to his mother, Teresa Galindo, about family, immigration and the American dream. Vargas, the first undocumented immigrant to be admitted to the New York State Bar Association, came to this country as a child with Galindo, who crossed the border from Mexico with him and his seven other brothers. The family settled on Staten Island, New York. After swearing in as a lawyer, Vargas worked as a strategist in Senator Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign. He currently works as a human rights lawyer in New York City to assist other undocumented immigrants. Along with other immigrants like him, he also graced the cover of the November 2017 issue of People en Español. Despite having some of his best wishes fulfilled, his mother wonders if it was really a good decision to cross the Mexican border with U. S. Vargas says to her: "You, my mother, are the original dreamer."
