After being one of the most recognized and beloved faces of soap operas in Mexico, Ernesto Laguardia said that he is now exploring new professional challenges with the support of his family after the soap opera beau roles that he was used to stopped reaching him.

“It has been hard. [Having had] economic stability for many years, at a very high level, being the star of the channel for forty years, suddenly it is to a certain point to start again,”admits in an interview with People en Español the artist, who since seven years ago, he has not had an exclusive contract with Televisa and has to find acting and conductor projects on his own.

“It was a difficult time. I understood that in every crisis and in every change there is an opportunity to grow, he added.

For this reason, the 60-year-old Mexican today is involved in various projects, such as the play Homophobia is not a thing for men, in which he gives life to a transvestite named Frida Sofía.

"[I always] make those radical jumps to all my characters because I get inside [them]," says Laguardia, noting that he talked to his wife Patricia Rodríguez and his family before accepting the project.

“I spoke to Paty and told her that I was [worried about the role] a little bit. She told me: 'Look, I love it because you always take challenges and get out of your comfort zone,'”recalls Laguardia, who also asked for the opinion of her three children: Bárbara, almost 12 years old; Santiago, 10; and Emiliano, 8.

We sat down with them and I said, 'I'm going to be a character of a man who dresses as a woman.' The little boy would laugh a lot and say to me: 'Hey dad, why are you going to dress as a woman if there are women?' But he told me: 'You are a great actor and it will go very well for you,'”he added with pride.
