23 Killed In Veracruz Bar

The port of Coatzacoalcos, in Veracruz, Mexico, is shocked and plunged into rigorous mourning after a bloody assault against a popular local bar that claimed the lives of 23 people.

According to the Mexican press, unknown assailants entered the El Caballo Blanco bar, known for its adult performances, and opened fire indiscriminately against those present, then set fire to the premises by throwing Molotov cocktails.

In total, the assault claimed the lives of 15 men and 8 women, and left 13 seriously injured, some of whom are torn between life and death. The Attorney General of the State of Veracruz confirmed the deaths and assured that the wounded are receiving medical attention in different hospitals in the city.

The state governor, Cuitláhuac García, assured through his Twitter account that those responsible for the massacre are being sought. “The cunning crime of a few moments ago in Coatzacoalcos will not go unpunished. In Veracruz criminal groups are no longer tolerated,”he wrote.

The majority of violent acts in Veracruz are considered to be a consequence of the war between the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartels and the Zetas cartels, the main drug trafficking groups operating in the area.

In this sense, in the last hours a terrible video circulates on social networks in which armed men have tied and gagged two men who identify themselves as Josimar Ríos López and Agustín Javier Ronson González, alleged owner of El Caballo Blanco, to whom later they cut their throats, according to the Efe agency.

The armed men warn that they will suffer the same fate to all the “chapulines”, a name with which they know in the jargon of crime those who desert a criminal organization to go to another rival or abandon it to open their own business, according to Efe.

The massacre at the bar along with the recent murder of 19 people in the state of Michoacán could be an indication that the war between the cartels for the control of drug trafficking reappears just as President Andrés Manuel López Obrador prepares to present his policy of security.

According to figures cited by the press, so far around 1,600 people have died in the state of Veracruz so far this year, an average of almost seven people a day.
