Mexican journalist María Elena Salinas will join CBS as a correspondent for her news unit.
CBS News Chief Executive Producer Susan Zirinsky confirmed the news on Monday.
"It is an honor to welcome María Elena Salinas to the CBS News team," Zirinsky said in a statement. "We hope to share your important journalistic voice and credentials with our audience at a critical time for this country."
The Univision award-winning presenter, who hosted the channel's national newscast for more than 30 years alongside Jorge Ramos, will provide reports through CBS News platforms and will be part of the coverage of the period leading up to the 2020 elections.
Surprisingly, Salinas left Univision in December 2017. At the time, he said he "needed a change," the ability to control his own schedule and take time to do the things he enjoys, like traveling for pleasure, not working.
After a short break, she returned to television screens as the host of her own English news magazine The Real Story with Maria Elena Salinas on Investigation Discovery. Salinas also covered the 2018 Mexico presidential election for Telemundo.
Salinas expressed his enthusiasm for his "new journalistic effort" with his followers on social networks. She also shared that she will continue working on other projects: "By doing so, I have achieved one of my dreams: to tell our stories, on other platforms, to new audiences."
Salinas is expected to begin his new role on the CBS network starting in August.
!! Congratulations!!
