A 12-year-old girl will be buried with her pet after being run over trying to save her dog from traffic. Last weekend Jennarae Goodbar, from Lexington, Virginia, was training her dog Cash outside her home when the pet ran away. Seeing that she was heading towards a street full of cars, the girl ran after the dog. Both were run over.

Apparently the driver of the vehicle that hit them could not stop in time to avoid the fatal crash. According to WFXR, the man who was driving the car was a friend of the family.

The girl and her dog had a very special bond. Jennarae bought Cash with her own money that she saved and treated him as "her baby," her mother Donna Jean Stuples revealed to WTVR. The mother added that her daughter and her pet will be buried together. Her funeral is scheduled for this Saturday in Lexington.

In her obituary in The News Gazette, the family of the Maury River middle school student remembers her as a girl full of life and optimism, "always smiling." She also liked fashion, and could wear cowboy boots as well as a dress with Converse sneakers.

After the accident, a GoFundMe account was created to help the teenager's family with the funeral and burial expenses.

"Jennarae Nicole Goodbar died in a tragic accident this afternoon," says the GoFundMe page. "She will always be remembered as a sweet girl, full of energy, who loved her dog, a girl who touched the lives of many." Police continue to investigate the crash.
