This nomination has caused strangeness because the candidate for the post does not have any diplomatic experience to assume this responsibility; her only knowledge is to be a native of that nation. However, it is said that this government has already been consulted in this regard.

For Marks to take charge of the assignment, it must first be approved by the Senate; to ratify it, it would occupy the position that has been vacant since 2016, which was released by the previous ambassador, Patrick Gaspard, after presenting his resignation. The space remains vacant until now.

Having a representative of this level in South Africa could help to somewhat palliate the harsh situation that exists between both peoples after the controversial statements by the US president, who, last January, called them "shit countries."

Currently, Lana Marks is CEO and sole designer of her company of bags that are sold in the market for a sum between 10 thousand and 400 thousand dollars.
