At least five people have died and eight others were injured in a shooting this Friday at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport, according to CNN.
The alleged person responsible for the shooting was identified as Esteban Santiago, who is in custody of the authorities, Mayor Barbara Sharief told CNN. We have no evidence at this time that he was acting with anyone else. He is currently detained and we are investigating,”he added. Sharief.
The shooting allegedly took place in the area where luggage is collected in terminal 2 of the airport, which generated scenes of panic. In the images collected by television channels and on social networks, a crowd of passengers and workers can be seen running along the airport's taxiway, which is closed until further notice.
The reasons behind the shooting are unknown at this time, but according to Sen. Bill Nelson, a Florida Democrat, the arrested suspect was carrying a military ID. The Broward County Sheriff noted on Twitter that they are investigating some reports that there would be a second shooter.
