A 41-year-old father killed his 11-year-old son after an argument with his wife and then committed suicide in Texas, according to various media reports. The tragedy occurred in the town of Rowlett, on the outskirts of Fort Worth. The Fort Worth Star Telegram newspaper reported that the man, identified as Policarpo Gonzalez-Flores and his partner, had been arguing for several hours before the violent incident.
The Dallas Morning News adds that the man last called his wife, Stephanie González, on Saturday moments after shooting her son James González, fatally injuring the boy.
It is unknown what the father and his wife, who was James' stepmother, were fighting over. Stephanie González told police that her husband had told her on the phone that he had shot his son and killed him, Star-Telegram reported.
The boy's stepmother called 911 at 11 p.m. Saturday, but by the time police arrived at the home, both James and his father were dead. According to various local media, more than 70 people attended a candlelight vigil at Kenwood Heights Park to honor the memory of James, a sixth-grade student at Coyle Middle School.
