A 64-year-old woman was sentenced to life in prison after confessing to the murder of her daughter-in-law, whom she shot dead in her own home and while her children were waiting for her in the car to go swimming.

Elizabeth Betsy Wall, a resident of Cobb County, Georgia, confessed to her chilling crime, after investigations revealed that she had planned the murder of Jenna Wall, 35, months in advance.

The chilling events occurred on June 23 at the victim's parents' home, located in Powder Springs. The woman had moved to live there with her two children - one 7 and the other 8 - after filing for divorce from her husband of 12 years, Jerrod Wall, son of the accused.

On the fateful date, Betsy Wall drove to the victim's home to pick up the children and take them for a swim. When she placed them in the car, she returned to the house armed with a.357 caliber revolver and with four shots, she killed the life of an esteemed kindergarten teacher.

According to the Atlanta Constitutional Journal, the old woman then called her son to tell him to go pick up his children. When his offspring - who is an investigator in the Paulding County District Attorney's Office - arrived at the home, he found the woman pointing the gun at her head and her dead wife in the kitchen.

The woman was arrested and according to testimonies before being taken away by the police, she only asked that they "let her die".

Subsequently, the grandmother declared herself mentally ill. But the investigations found that Wall spent months investigating issues related to murder, suicide, and accidental death lawsuits.

"In her Internet searches on the cell phone on April 19, she searched for various articles about someone killing a family member or himself," said Cobb County Detective Shawn Murphy. "That day she also sought [information regarding] accidental death lawsuits, which she had also done the day before." The old woman also acquired the murder weapon that same day.

"[Jerrod] says that he no longer has a mother. That she died that day too,” Suzanne Henrickson, an attorney for the elderly woman's son, told People.

This Friday, the woman was sentenced to life in prison and without bail. Under state law, you will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years in prison.
