The Disney World parks in Orlando reopened on Tuesday after being closed for two days due to the passage of the powerful Hurricane Irma through Florida.

The complex was closed on Sunday, when the cyclone crossed the entire state, and on Monday to repair the damage it caused. Magic Kingdom, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios opened their doors yesterday with their normal schedule, just like Universal's parks did.

For now only the parks mentioned are in operation; the water parks will remain closed, Disney said in a statement.

The doors opened for thousands of visitors who stumbled upon the sad scene of a rather affected Disney. On social media, some people shared images of the damage Disney World suffered in the storm.

Fallen trees, some damage near Cinderella's Castle, floods in Epcot and damage to the Be Our Guest restaurant, among others, can be seen in the images.

This is the first time in the park's history that it has closed two consecutive days and the fifth time it has closed since its opening in 1971. On all occasions it has been due to a hurricane.

As Disney tries to return to normal, residents who have abandoned their homes have begun to return to their properties to face the harsh reality and assess the damage caused by Irma, the second hurricane to hit the United States in a few weeks.

Irma, one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes on record, killed 43 people as it passed through the Caribbean and at least 22 in the United States, where it made landfall in the Florida Keys and the West Coast of the state.
