Sources in the state of Puebla cited at least five collapsed buildings in the pre-Hispanic city of Cholula and local media indicated that so far there are 5 victims in the entity, according to reports from The Guardian. The entity's governor, Tony Gali, shared a tweet confirming that they had died from the quake, without indicating the number of fatalities.

Damage is also reported at the Benito Juárez International Airport in Mexico City, the air terminal where the President of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto was scheduled to arrive and whose aircraft was diverted to another nearby airport.

According to reports from the Univisión network, the president canceled the trip he had planned to New York to participate in the annual United Nations summit.
