In what represents an incredible story of survival, a 7-year-old little girl from Worcester, Massachusetts, managed to swim for her salvation after being thrown off an Interstate 290 highway bridge.

According to the ABC affiliate in that city, the little girl's odyssey began at dawn on Sunday when she fell asleep in her grandparents' room. They had held a meeting there and, apparently, one of the guests, Joshua Hubert, 35, kidnapped her around two in the morning.

After trying to strangle her, he launched her from a bridge into Loch Quinsigamond, a fall that would have submerged her about 100 feet. Miraculously the girl surfaced and swam to the shore, then walked to a nearby house where she asked for help.

The woman who lives in that house, who asked that her name not be released, gave her help. "She was incredibly brave, I have great admiration for her … I have never seen a child behave so responsibly and so well," said the good Samaritan.

Authorities say the little girl was bloody and beaten. Hubert is currently being held without bail on kidnapping charges, but more crimes are expected.

The woman who helped her called the survival story of this little girl miraculous due to the depth of the lake. "The fact that he swam, all of that is really amazing."
