Miss South Africa Demi Leigh received hundreds of criticisms after photos were posted showing her wearing latex gloves during a visit to an institution aimed at caring for orphaned and HIV-positive children.
âWe are so grateful to be able to be part of this initiative. Thank you for inviting usâ, wrote the 22-year-old in the series of images that she shared on her social networks, and where she is seen sharing with the children.
After being seriously criticized, Miss South Africa chose to post a video on her social networks clarifying why she used the gloves.

"I want to clarify the situation. All of the volunteers wore gloves [that day] because we thought it was appropriate to do so while distributing food to the children. We did it to be hygienic. I'm sorry to see that my good intention was misinterpreted, "said Leigh. âFor me the moral of the story is that 300 children ate a proper lunch and it was done with or without gloves. Sorry if I came to offend someone, it was not my intention."
