Mónica Spear is still alive in the memory of her family three years after her tragic death on a road in Venezuela, as found by People en Español in an exclusive interview with the parents, daughter and brothers of the late actress and beauty queen. Venezuelan at her home in Orlando, FL.

The actress's daughter Maya Berry Spear - who survived the deadly car robbery in which she was riding with her parents in January 2014 - today is a brilliant 8-year-old student who has found a great source of encouragement in art.

“Maya's schedule is busy with her friends, family, parties, going to theme parks and her school. Many times he stays at home and dedicates himself to making his art, he loves painting, clay,”said his grandfather Rafael Spear, who with his wife Inge Mootz Spear are raising the girl.

Rafael said he sees in his granddaughter a lot of Monica's charisma and talent. "I have always told Maya that her parents are unfortunately not there, that they are in Heaven and that someday, in the very distant future, they will be together with her."

"Let him remember that she is here because I am sure that life has an important role in store for her and that she must echo that, bear that in mind," he added.

Inge, Monica's mother, revealed that her granddaughter is very aware of her mother and father Thomas Berry, who died with the actress at the hands of the criminals who assaulted them.

“At first, she did not tell us anything about what happened or what she felt because she knew that it hurt a lot. She was venturing with her teacher. We found out from her teacher or her psychologist what she was feeling, he recalled.

“Maya really likes to see photos of her mom and dad. When she sees the three of them together, she smiles, perhaps remembering the happy moments she lived with them. Whenever she talks about them, she talks with a lot of love. How much she loved them and how much her parents loved her, he added.

According to Mootz, his daughter revealed to him shortly before his death that he believed she had Asperger syndrome, which falls within the disorders of the autism spectrum, an ailment that her character suffered in the soap opera The Perfect Woman.

"When she was doing the character of Micaela in The Perfect Woman, where she was a girl with Asperger's syndrome, she had several interviews with specialists and with people who had that syndrome and she was very identified," revealed the mother.

“He realized that she had been a girl who felt different and he didn't know why, he realized that she was something from Asperger's. A month before what happened, in 2013, she told me: 'I went to a specialist and she told me that I had Asperger syndrome,'”she added.

Her father admitted that Monica was an outstanding woman, with whom he had a very special connection. Time has helped heal wounds, but their absence continues to hurt them.

"I really have not started to analyze what happened, how it happened, because unfortunately in Venezuela these are things that happen on a daily basis," he observed. “We are not the only family that has been involved in a tragedy like this. It is very common and ordinary that if you are in the wrong time and place, some of this can happen to you. What happened, how did it happen? I don't know, but the fact is that we no longer have Monica and we no longer have Thomas and Maya is an orphan.”
