The decision to put Melania Trump on the cover of the Mexican edition of Vanity Fair magazine generated enormous controversy in Aztec lands due to its coincidence with President Donald Trump's order to build the border wall.
The controversy escalated even more when an offensive tweet against the Mexican people appeared on the Twitter account of its publisher, Lourdes Garzón.
“What crybaby are your Mexican companions. Laughter”, read Garzón's tweet, of Spanish nationality.
The magazine was immediately cut off from the comment. "We categorically deny the authorship of the magazine's editorial team, regarding the offensive messages that were published on social networks with a disrespectful tone in reference to the cover of Melania Trump of February 2017," the publication said in a statement.
"This morning, Twitter executives have confirmed that the messages are illegitimate and the necessary actions are being taken to eliminate them completely," he added.
The outrage generated by the tweet led to a request on Moveon.org for Garzón to be told the phrase that made Trump famous: "You are fired!"
