The flowers, the guests, the mother-in-law, the cake … on your wedding day there are a thousand and one details that require your attention, but if there is something, with permission of the dress, to which you should pay special attention is your makeup look. After all, all eyes are going to be on you and you want to feel as comfortable and sure of yourself on that special day. To help you with this mission, we spoke with the star makeup artist Mariela Bagnato, who has shared her favorite wedding products, tips and techniques, and even what she used at her own wedding!

What is the first thing you recommend to a bride who does not know what she wants for her wedding day?

It is a very special day where the bride seeks to look beautiful, but she must take into account that there are several factors that will make her look different: the dress, hairstyle, in some cases the tiara or the veil. For that reason you must first define a concept thinking about everything it will take. I always recommend that you wear bright makeup, not too overloaded and romantic. There are many places to look for inspiration, in my case the favorites are Instagram and Pinterest.

Is it important for you to see the style of the dress or to know what hairstyle they are going to wear?

Absolutely! Every look is born from a concept and the hairstyle, dress, wedding decoration, location of the party and ceremony should also be considered. To know which products to use, which are best seen in light and in photos, it is also important to know if it will be done during the day or at night.

What do they ask of you the most?

My makeup style stands out for highlighting natural beauty. Generally [my clients] look for me because they want that style. Although natural does not always mean simple, there are many options that can be done under this concept. I think my star look is a skin not so charged and radiant. Let there be contour, but you can't tell it apart! Accentuate the eyes in neutral tones by framing the gaze with eyebrows and eyelashes.

What are your golden rules for a good wedding makeup look?

Be you! not trying to look totally different that day. If you want to innovate with a totally different look, try it more than once to make sure you feel comfortable. Always use waterproof products since not only tears can ruin your makeup. Dancing and waving guests can make your makeup run over the hours.

What foundation, blush, and eyeshadow palette are your favorites for a bridal look?

On my wedding day I put on makeup myself and used my favorite products! I applied MAC Strobe Cream to create radiance on the skin and Tarte Clay Stick Foundation for a natural and covered finish. To give color and contour I used Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Contour Wand that looks very natural on the skin and provides a subtle glow. For the blush, combine Mary Kay Chromafusion in Shy Blush and Darling Pink shades. In the eyes I usually combine more than one palette, although I think that one that you should not miss for this type of bridal makeup is the Pillow Talk Luxury eye shadow palette by Charlotte Tilbury.
