After the success of Veronica Castro's return to the screen with the house of flowers, the first Mexican actress shares with us the advice and style keys that have made her an international icon. Do not miss it.
How did you feel when you reunited with your television audience thanks to La casa de las flores (Netflix)?
In fact, it has not been a reunion because I have never been out of touch. It really has been an approach to a very different type of audience. My usual audience is happy with the change and the new audience that has done me the favor of receiving me, they liked me. I am very grateful to life because it has given me the chance to be with you more.
In this groundbreaking series, what do you have in common with your character, Virginia de la Mora?
I am also a mother who fights for the well-being of the family, to try to have them close, to solve problems. At first we thought to make [the character] more modern, but finally she is a classic woman because what happens to her is very classic. She always thought of having a normal, middle-class family, always trying to fight to climb, grow and be better. And yes, I also feel identified as a classic woman.
Also when it comes to dressing?
When it comes to dressing I am more crazy because I always like to dress as I feel like it: one day very fun, another very serious, very masculine, very feminine … I don't have an exact parameter. I really like fashion, but my fashion, doing it my way.
Do you work with a stylist for red carpets?
No, there I have to do it alone because I need to feel comfortable and safe. I do not understand those red carpets where they dress the stars and put on them some recomplicated dresses that do not leave them even walking, they stop them in front of a wall, they take the photo and they run off to change to put on their flip flops. I don't like to specifically marry any designer because I am very eclectic in the way I am and the way I dress. Obviously there are brands that I really like, like Gucci, Etro …
What are your favorite clothes?
I love bichas or vipers. In general I love the strangest, most sophisticated and fun things. Also flowers of all kinds, with flowers I get along.
Speaking of flowers, do you have a favorite perfume?
I really like essences. I had the opportunity to be in Dubai and bring me some wonderful essences that I don't even know what they are called in their language. I am not of a single perfume.
And now, how do you take care of your skin?
The truth is that I don't take much care of myself. At night I clean my face and put on creams. If you can make a good cream, perfect, if not, coconut oil. [Also] I don't like using foundation, I have never even used foundation to work. I use powders to remove shine, sometimes a little concealer if I have a lot of dark circles, but I have never really used makeup or soap operas.
Are you one of those who pamper yourself with treatments in the beauty salon?
My mother has had a beauty salon for over forty years, so she helps me a lot. Sometimes she does me the favor of sending people to cut, comb or paint me. […] It always helped me a lot at the beginning of my career, from how to start applying makeup to how to do my hair because I was very young when I started working.
Taking a look back, what has been the character you have most enjoyed in your career?
I have loved all of them. Of the soap operas the most fun was that of Wild Rose and now with La casa de las flores it turns out that Virginia is the darling of the millennials. Now Virginia is winning [laughs].
After the series, what future plans do you have?
I have been offered to present my life, but I do not want to do it on television, we are thinking of doing it live, with a farewell world tour of all the places my novels and series have come to. […] I would like to thank the public personally and make a record with my son, who had it pending. I am preparing a retreat with which people will be left with a good impression.
