For Pamela Silva Conde it is time to return. When she was young and dreamed of being a journalist, the Peruvian presenter got a scholarship that changed her life forever and now, with her own scholarship program, she wants to return the favor and fulfill the dreams of others. "A small gesture to thank all the help and support that I received." Find out where her motivation comes from and everything she's doing to help future communicators get to the top.

How were your journalism student years?

From a young age it was very clear that she wanted to be a journalist, but she also knew that obtaining a university degree was going to take a lot of sacrifice, both financially and emotionally. I had the great blessing of winning a scholarship, but even so, I had to balance my studies with various jobs.

When did you decide to start this scholarship and why journalism students? Why is this cause important to you?

The scholarship began as a small gesture to thank all the help and support that I had received during my university studies … and, over the years, it has become a great community project. We started by awarding scholarships to journalism students, then we extended them to business students, and this year we also included two “dreamers” and a student from Puerto Rico, affected by Hurricane María.

What are the requirements to obtain this scholarship?

It is intended for students from my alma mater FIU (Florida International University), from low-income families; but also, that they are academically outstanding. Another important requirement is that they be “First Generation”, that is, the first in their family to graduate from college.

Where do you think the philanthropic streak comes from and the interest in helping the less fortunate?

My mother is my great inspiration. She always instilled in me the duty to help everyone I can, with everything I can. And I hope I can inspire my future children in the same way and also the new generations with my example. It is, without a doubt, the best legacy and gift my mother has given me: the gift of knowing that one has the power to change lives.

Of the students who have received your scholarship in the past, are there any of their stories that especially caught your attention or touched your heart?

All the scholarships have been young people who have changed my life. This year during Premios Juventud I had to present a young businesswoman in the “Girl Boss” category for having inspired others and for creating jobs, and when I saw that Leyanis Díaz was my first scholarship, her heart almost came out of such pride. And so … they all have great life stories and I am sure that in the future they will continue helping others.

Do you consider yourself a Superwoman?

I think we all have the ability to be a Superwomen! We, by nature, are stronger than we imagine. We just have to dare to dream big and not limit ourselves.

Who is for you an example of superwoman or woman that you admire? It can be any woman in history, in your family, someone you have met in your career …

The "superwomen" that inspire me are those immigrant mothers who, like mine, are not afraid to start from scratch in an unknown country, for the well-being of their children.

Do you have a phrase, mantra or quote that you identify with or that helps you in your life?

Facing life with gratitude … being grateful brings you more blessings and unequaled tranquility.
