In addition to being part of Disney's collaboration with the United Nations Girl Up initiative to empower girls around the world, Mexican photographer Theresa Balderas is dedicated to photographing catalogs for the coolest fashion and jewelry brands in New York. and fashion editorials for publications like Vogue and L'Officiel Paris.
“In my commercial and personal work, I try to make everything look natural and real. I really enjoy the imperfect photos”, acknowledges Balderas.
In addition to her work in fashion, she also finds time to attend to her supportive side and collaborate in the children's center her family has in Mexico.
“Open Sky is a home that my father founded [in Mexico] eight years ago and that receives abused or abused children. So when Disney approached me I wanted to tell the story of [Patty], a girl who lived there for two years and was later adopted by a family. It is very important to me to support this project. It is the legacy of my family.”
When asked how being a Latina influences her work in this country, Balderas is clear about it. “80% of my projects, clients or jobs are Latino. Nothing is coincidence. The truth is that I love to relate to and support Latino people, I feel very proud to be Mexican and to be able to interact with Latin American people who, like me, seek to excel in the USA,”she admits.
SUPERWOMAN ME? Haha. Not at all. I do consider myself blessed and fortunate to have found my passion in life and to be able to do good with my work.” Follow her on @theresabalderas
