It seems that it was only yesterday that the charming Elena of Avalor made her TV debut to join the cast of the charming Disney princesses.
Now, the adorable animated character will celebrate his first Christmas on the small screen with a Christmas special that has Jaime Camil, Justina Machado and Latin Grammy winner Gaby Moreno as luxury guests to lend their voices.
Disney sources confirmed to People en Español that the Mexican leading man of Jane the Virgin will give voice to Julio, a character who owns a restaurant in Avalor.
"There are many ways to celebrate Christmas," actress Constance Marie told People en Español in an exclusive clip about the recording of the special. "The Latino community is so diverse [that] at Elena de Avalor we are going to show the different ways of celebrating Christmas."
"In Puerto Rico, where I grew up, there is a tradition in which you go from house to house singing Christmas carols and you don't leave until they give you food," explained Aimee Carrero, whose voice gives life to Elena de Avalor, about one of These ways of celebrating the season and that will be shown in the show.
"Everyone with Latino roots, any kind of Latino past, is going to see a little bit of their [cultural] experience reflected in the show," he added.
"In the Christmas episode I sang a song called 'Hacia Belén va una burra,'" said Moreno, who became known for his role in the HBO series Six Feet Under. "It is a very popular song in Latin America at Christmas time and now they have included my version of it in the special, so it has been an incredible experience."
In the Christmas special we will see how heroin unites the community to share its different Christmas traditions. But when the evil Doña Paloma begins to generate a hostile and competitive atmosphere among the inhabitants of Avalor, Elena takes on the task of singing Christmas carols in a traditional "party" through the streets of the kingdom to celebrate the true Christmas spirit.
Actress Jenna Ortega, who co-stars Jane the Virgin, is another one of the famous voices we'll be hearing during the show, as she plays Elizabeth, Princess Elena's little sister.
The Christmas special premieres this Friday, December 9 at 7:30 pm ET on the Disney Channel. The show will air again on Saturday 10, at 9:30 am ET / PT.
