There is a popular saying that says 'what is for you, even if you take it off'. That is precisely what happened to Eva Cedeño with the protagonist of I Give You Life, a soap opera that broadcasts Univision at 8 pm Eastern time. In the beginning, the character of Elena was not for her. “I was mainly called to do the casting for Irene, who is the villain of the story, and being there they asked me to do a scene of Elena. I did it. And now,”says the Mexican actress. That is why her surprise was capital when two weeks later she was summoned again at the Televisa San Ángel facilities to announce the unexpected news.

"When Lucero [ Suárez, the producer] tells me that she wants to propose me as its protagonist, that she had really liked my work in the casting, it was a surprise," Cedeño shares.

What followed were screams, tears, and more screaming. "It was a lot of emotion," he admits.

"This first protagonist is a great step on my way, it is a great step that it has cost me to get to," says the actress, who until now had played different villains in successful fictions on Televisa, the last Leticia Jara in Por amar sin ley. "The villains amuse the forbidden and Elena has amused me for the light, for the goodness, because it is a different exploration and in the end it also gives great satisfaction."

Eva defines her character as "an extremely kind, luminous woman, with a determined character that is extremely affectionate and very objective." Her great motor, she explains, is her little adoptive son Nicolás, for whom she will fight until she can save her life because the boy has leukemia.

“It is complicated since you get into pain, since you let yourself be carried away by a scene where there is nothing left but to feel and let yourself feel like the human being that you are who is giving life to this character. From there lies the difficulty and simplicity at the same time because you give yourself to that emotion and let it flow, but of course it is not an easy emotion. Pain is never easy for anyone”, he shares about the heartbreaking scenes he stars in in this story.

During Elena's creation process, the actress had the opportunity to talk with different women who, like her character, have experienced this complex and painful disease up close.

“There was a foundation that did me the favor of letting me talk to some moms who had children with leukemia. It is complex to explain but I think that each of them put a super important piece in this totality that is Elena and some phrase or some attitude towards Nico on the part of Elena I think that it comes from one or more of these mothers who did me the favor of opening up with me,”says the 30-year-old interpreter.

In addition to this drama that promises to touch the most sensitive fibers of the public, her character will live an unexpected love story with Pedro, played by José Ron.

“Ron is an incredible partner. And on stage it's super generous. You can work in a team with him, he is a purposeful partner, who also has a very nice vibe. The truth is that I am very grateful to him because on this path, which he already has more experience than me, he has been extremely generous. I had a great partner, he concludes.
