We all know that you have to start at the root of the problem to change anything; this sentiment carries into everything from shopping to political action. Whether it's through volunteering with grassroots organizations or shopping locally, starting at home is the best way to make a difference. Thanks to ShopLatinx, you can support more than 200 Latinx-owned business just by shopping, so whether you're looking for a horchateria or a blusa for spring, the online site has you covered. Started by Brittany Chavez and Raquel Garcia, ShopLatinx grew from an Instagram that aimed to highlight Latinx creators and small business owners to an online platform that features a magazine, resources and database of Latinx businesses.

Chavez was inspired to start the site last summer, when Solange Knowles released a roster of business owned by people of color, with Afropunk donning their own version of the same that week. When Chavez searched for a Latinx version of the roster and found nothing, she decided to come up with her own database. Chavez connected with Garcia over Facebook, and that's when ShopLatinz was born. Both women wanted to use their voices to highlight Latino and Latina owned businesses, which originally started as an Instagram that highlighted different small businesses.

But two weeks before Black Friday, the ShopLatinx team decided to start an online equivalent, eventually launching before the holiday. Back then, the platform featured a blog with six posts. Now, it's more than a reference site for Latinx owned business; it's also a magazine with everything from playlists, interviews and business features to shopping guides and photo essays.

Whether you're looking for the best taco truck around, the best red lipstick for your skin tone or a new artist to obsess over, ShopLatinx has you covered. The curated database gives you information like links to social media and websites, reviews and information about the business. This platform was created as a way to give Latinx the voice that many mainstream publications and retailers don't, and we're so thankful for that.
