Recalling the sex scandal that led him to face impeachment in the U. S. Congress in the 1990s, former U. S. President Bill Clinton spoke about the reasons that led him to have an extramarital affair with Monica Lewinsky.

In an interview that was released this Friday in the documentary series Hillary, Clinton said that she had a relationship with the then-22-year-old young intern in the White House "to manage anxiety", due to "work pressure" made him feel like a boxer after having fought “30 rounds”.

When asked why he risked his presidency and his marriage so much with said relationship, the former president admitted that it was one of the "most stupid" things he did and added that he failed to measure the consequences of his actions while regretting that he sought that "Distraction" to ease the pressure I felt.

Clinton, who initially denied under oath that she had a relationship with Lewinsky, confessed that what she did was "inexcusable" and that one of the most difficult moments she faced subsequently was accepting her mistake before his wife, Hillary Clinton, who was "devastated" by the news that went around the world.

"I went, sat on the bed and talked to Hillary, I told her exactly what happened and when it happened. I said, 'I feel terrible about it,'”he recounted in the third episode of the documentary. "I have no defense because this is inexcusable, what I did is inexcusable."

The Clinton-Lewinsky affair erupted in early 1998 when a friend of the former intern handed over to the authorities recordings detailing the hitherto secret encounters between the two. Clinton was subjected to a political trial where he faced perjury charges and was exonerated; Lewinsky is now a social activist, businesswoman, and writer.

The series is divided into four episodes and focuses on the life of the former first lady and former secretary of state, her marriage to Clinton, and her failed 2016 presidential campaign against Donald Trump.
