The terrible fire that struck the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris could leave irreplaceable losses for the entire world, since the historical temple, in addition to being one of the sacred places of the Catholic Church, was home to some of the most precious religious relics associated with the death of Jesus.
The cathedral, which was finished in 1365, was in the midst of a million dollar renovation that would give a new life to the structure that receives more than 13 million visitors each year. Despite the fact that by this restructuring multiple works of art, sculptures and relics had been removed, many other historical jewels of humanity still remained inside the majestic temple.
These are some of the Catholic relics that could be lost forever if consumed by fire:
The crown of thorns: Although its authenticity has not been verified, in the Parisian cathedral lies the crown that was imposed on Jesus before his crucifixion.

Stone of the Holy Sepulcher: This stone is said to have been taken from the place where Jesus was crucified and is also housed at Notre Dame.
Piece of the cross: Another of the Catholic relics that could be lost is a piece that is said to have belonged to the same cross on which Jesus was condemned to die.
Nails of the cross: Likewise, the temple housed among its most valuable possessions the lace with which Jesus was supposedly nailed to the cross.

Other treasures: The largest organ in France and one of the oldest in the world, the iconic Emmanuel bell, historical sculptures, paintings and stained glass windows from hundreds of years old are also other priceless historical gems that could disappear after the raging fire.
