A New Jersey couple became famous for raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for a homeless man after he helped them with their broken down car, now facing fraud charges.
As reported by NBC, Mark D'Amico and Kate McClure allegedly created a false story about the homeless, identified as Johnny Bobbitt Jr., In order to raise more than a "personal piggy bank" to finance a lifestyle they couldn't afford..
Bobbitt later sued the couple for the mismanagement of the funds and a judge ordered affidavits to determine what happened to the cash, which Bobbitt's attorney Chris Fallon said was missing.
D'Amico and McClure turned themselves in to Burlington County prosecutors on Wednesday, a source told NBC10. The source did not confirm whether Bobbitt turned himself in as well.
