An Alabama college student took the surprise of his life after straining and walking 20 miles to his new job. The CEO of the company, moved by the effort of his employee, chose to give him a car.

Walter Carr started walking from Homewood at midnight to get to work at the Bellhops moving company, located in Pelham, Alabama at 8 am Friday. Pelham Police picked him up around 4 am and took him to breakfast before dropping him off at a client's home.

Carr, who hopes to enter the U. S. Navy, made the night trip after his 2003 Nissan Altima broke down. He calculated that it would take him seven hours to get to his first day on the job.

Despite walking for hours, Carr did not want to rest and came home with energy for work, according to a GoFundMe page that has been created to help her family, who moved to the Birmingham area from New Orleans after they lost their home in Hurricane Katrina.

The client the young man went to help shared a comment about his service on his Facebook page.

“I can't tell you how moved Walter and his path were. He is humble, kind and cheerful, and he had big dreams! He is a great worker,”he wrote on Facebook.

Thanks to this post, Bellhops CEO Luke Marklin drove from Tennessee to Alabama on Monday and awarded his new employee's dedication to a 2014 Ford Escape.

"[There are] decisions in life that are sometimes important and are made quickly because they are the right thing to do, and this was one of them," Marklin told ABC affiliate WMBA.

Carr says she hopes her story inspires others to fight for what they want in life, even if it means foot pain.

“I wanted to show you that I have dedication and that I always have it in my life and that I am going to get to this job in one way or another. I tell people that if you think more than 20 miles is a lot, then come walk in my shoes because my shoes were really killing me that day, he told WMBA.
