Nikolas Cruz, the teenager accused of murdering 17 people at the Marjorie Stonman Douglas School in Parkland, Florida, has received an avalanche of fan letters including sexually explicit photographs and donations.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel newspaper obtained hundreds of photocopies of letters and photos sent to Cruz, 19, who is being held while awaiting trial for a litany of charges including 17 charges of first-degree murder.

Among Cruz's admirers is a woman from Chicago, who sent Cruz nine photos, including a bikini photo, one of her cleavage and another of her derriere. On the other hand, a Texas woman commented on her "beautiful" eyes and "beautiful" freckles.

"No one else is dealing with your demons, which means that perhaps defeating them could be the beginning of your meaning, friend," wrote an 18-year-old from New York in a letter decorated with pink hearts. “I know you could use a good friend right now. Hold on and keep your head up."

Cruz is under suicide watch and is not allowed to receive emails, most of which are opened by prison officials. Broward County Public Defender Howard Finkelstein, whose office represents Cruz, told the Sun Sentinel that he has never seen so much mail for a defendant in his 40 years as a public defender.

"We read to him some religious who extended the desires for his soul and to go to God," said Finkelstein, "we have not read or read to him the letters of the admirers nor will we share the photos of the teenagers in scantily clad clothes."

Finkelstein said he is concerned about young people looking at Cruz: “That scares me. He is perverted."

The tragedy encouraged the school's student leaders to demand safer schools and tighter restrictions on firearms. They organized a student strike in schools across the country, then the 'March for our lives' that drew more than a million people to marches across the country and around the world.

Meanwhile, Zachary Cruz, the brother of 18-year-old Nikolas Cruz, did not admit Thursday to a misdemeanor trespassing charge on the Stoneman Douglas campus on March 19. He was sentenced to six months of probation.
