Brazilian player Everton Luiz, who is part of the Serbian league's Partizan Belgrade team, left the field of play this Sunday in tears after being the victim of racist chants coming from the rostrum during his club's most recent match.

The chants against the Brazilian included some in which they called him "ape", among other insults, causing the player's anger at one point in the game.

Helpless in the face of the situation, Everton Luiz went to the rostrum that sang against him and responded by showing his finger to the followers who shouted the insults. Immediately a great fight broke out between the players of Partizan Belgrade and those of Rad, the rival team.

“I put up with 90 minutes of racism and other insults from the rostrum, and then I was caught in a cauldron of emotionless individuals who confronted me when they should have protected me. I want to forget this, refocus on soccer, and I ask everyone to say 'no to racism,'”Luiz told Reuters.

According to an Associated Press report, a banner with racist insults was also carried by Rad fans, but was removed thanks to the order given by the referees in charge of the match.

The behavior of the Rad fans led the Serbian Football Association to suspend any game at the team's stadium until the disciplinary sanction the team will face is decided.
